Twilight Photos

We offer both natural twilight photos and virtual twilight photo conversions.

While we do offer artificial twilights for those who would like them, we encourage natural twilight photos, because we capture your residence and how it interacts with the actual late-evening light. Your guests will see what’s really there, not added light or artificially lit windows. We have real-world experience, capturing real-world twilight images.

A natural twilight photo is actually photographed during the short period around sunset when there is still some ambient light in the sky.

Our photographer is physically onsite at the property during twilight and typically:

• Turns on interior and exterior lights.
• Photographs while the sky naturally develops blue, purple, orange, or pink tones.(depending on weather)
• Balances the exposure between the sky, house, windows, and landscape.
• May use multiple exposures and blend them afterward.
• Times the shoot carefully because the ideal light can sometimes last only 10 to 20 minutes.

The major advantage is realism. Reflections, shadows, window light, landscape illumination, and ambient light all naturally reflect the actual conditions.

It also requires considerably more effort. The photographer must schedule around sunset, remain at the property later, deal with weather and cloud conditions, and may need to wait for exactly the right lighting.

Here are a few tips to make your property pop in a twilight photo:

1. Clean your windows. Anything between a light source and our lens will show up in a twilight.
2. Make sure your light bulbs are in working order. Indoors, and out.
3. Have your outdoor amenities ready. Hot tubs, fire pits, and outdoor furniture should all be clean and in working order.

Virtual (or artificial twilight conversion) photos do allow for more flexibility than natural twilight photos. Virtual twilight photos are photos taken during the daylight hours and edited to appear as if it is evening. Photos for virtually twilights are typically captured during a visit for other photos, so they are less expensive due to a reduced time onsite. We are careful to keep the skies reasonably accurate to the property location (e.g. the sun sets in the west) but we can return excellent images regardless of the direction your property faces. Please indicate if you would like virtual twilight photos at the time of booking so we can plan photo angles and lighting.
